Pillar 1Governance and Financial Recourse

The MVR Foundation is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) and a not-for-profit company (NPC), as defined in section 1 of the Companies Act. This means we have both the privilege and the fiduciary responsibility to use the generous contributions from our donors for public benefit.

The operational costs of the MVR Foundation is funded by interest raised from an endowment fund, which is another layer of assurance for donors that 100% of all donations received are used for our mission, which is to enhance the lives of children from single-parent households in local South African communities where the needs are plenty, but resources scarce. Put another way, our funds are used solely on projects that assist children throughout the learning journey, and who are specifically from low-income households.

Given that PBOs qualify for Tax Exemption on Income, as per Section 10(1)(cN) of the South African Revenue Service (SARS), the MVR Foundation will be able to issue funders and donors with an 18A receipt for tax relief.

We subscribe to the principles of accountability and transparency. As such, all funds raised or donated will reflect on our financial statements, the process of which is overseen by the directors of the Foundation, in line with PBO regulations. With more than fifty years of combined experience, directors have been screened and are qualified for their roles on the MVR Foundation. We ensure we follow the principles of good governance, as outlined in all legal and compliance requirements for PBOs.

Pillar 2Acts of Kindness

We do not believe that any child nor parent should be forced to say no to brilliant opportunity during the learning years, especially if it has the potential to change life for the better, simply because they do not have the financial means.

The MVR Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of children from single-parent households in local South African communities, where the needs are plenty, but resources scarce.

We do this through acts of kindness, donations, and compassionate initiatives throughout a child’s learning journey – from early childhood development to basic education phases, as well as from primary and high school to tertiary education. Whether it involves assisting with tuition fees, supplying of uniform and sports gear, bursary aid, stationery requirements, or supporting educational excursions, we strive to change lives for the better.

By fostering a supportive environment, we aim to instill confidence in these children and their families, allowing them to embrace opportunities and realise their potential. We hope that by addressing a pressing need in vulnerable communities, we can contribute to poverty alleviation. By lending support in the sphere of education, we uplift communities, improve quality of life, and create a more equitable society. Through the spirit of generosity, the MVR Foundation aspires to rekindle hope in families struggling financially, demonstrating that no need is too small to make a significant and lasting difference.
